This is old news by now, but there may still be people out there who have not yet heard the unfortunate news that ABC decided not to give the law-themed spin-off The Good Lawyer the go-ahead. This was announced back in November 2023 by several news outlets after ABC made it public.

The show, whose main characters and premise were introduced in episode 6×16 of The Good Doctor, is just one of the several scripted TV shows that fell victim to the extended writers’ and actors’ strikes that lasted all summer and autum of 2023 and brought the vast majority of Hollywood productions to a standstill. Networks had to pick and choose what new TV shows to invest in for a shortened and thus lesss profitable coming season, so it’s no massive surprise that The Good Lawyer was axed even before it got a chance to shine.

Fans were saddened and have expressed anger and unhappiness about the decision, but it’s unlikely that ABC will be swayed to renege on this decision now or in the future.

In the meantime, production for season 7 of The Good Doctor has started, with new episodes premiering on February 20, 2024 and the show relinquishing it’s usual Monday night spot to find a new home Tuesdays at 10/9c.
